Fee information

Vital Dermatology is a private provider of dermatology services. As a private provider we charge a gap fee for our services above what Medicare reimburses. You need a current, valid referral from your GP to be entitled to a Medicare rebate.

Gap fees charged by Vital Dermatology are required to provide safe, quality dermatology services. Due to the level of the MBS rebate, we are unable to provide any bulk billed services.

Private health insurance does not offer rebates for the cost of outpatient consultations or procedures.

You may be able to claim some of the cost of non-PBS or compounded prescription medication through your private extras’ insurance.

Full payment on the day is required and payments may be made by EFTPOS, Mastercard or Visa. Cash payments are unable to be accepted.

Your Medicare rebate should be deposited back into your bank account overnight on the date of your appointment. Please contact Medicare if this does not occur.

PLEASE NOTE: Appointments are in high demand and to ensure urgent cases are seen as soon as possible, If you cannot attend your appointment, please inform us with as much notice as possible, but at least one business day prior to your appointment, otherwise you may be charged a late cancellation fee. If you miss your appointment (without notifying us) you may be charged a non-attendance fee. These fees are not eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Surgical services

Biopsies

Skin biopsies, if required, will be offered at the time of your appointment where possible. These incur an additional fee and require a follow up, privately billed appointment to discuss results and plan further treatment if required.

Skin excisions

Most malignant skin cancers and some benign skin lesions such as cysts and moles need to be treated with surgical excision.

Rebates and fees vary for these services depending on the lesion excised, the site of the surgery, and the type of closure required (side to side, flap, or skin graft). Your financial consent will be obtained before your excision.

There is no additional fee for your post excision appointment where sutures are removed unless further discussion with the dermatologist and management planning/referral is required on the day.
